April 24 a public holiday for Agong’s installation

PUTRAJAYA, April 3 — Putrajaya today announced a public holiday on April 24 to mark the installation of Sultan Muhammad V from Kelantan as Malaysia’s 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Ali Hamsa said the declaration is made under the Public Holidays Act 1951, which applies to states in the peninsula as well as the federal territory of Labuan in Borneo Malaysia.
He added that Sabah and Sarawak have been told to ratify the public holiday under their respective state laws.
Sultan Muhammad V was elected as the country’s King when the Conference of Rulers met last October. He succeeds Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah of Kedah, the only state monarch to reign twice as Agong.
The installation ceremony will be held at the Balairung Seri of the Istana Negara here on the morning of April 24.
